I got out and visited a handful of subdivisions for the National Night Out in Nampa. I met some great folks, and it all reminded me about what’s good in our country: neighbors gathering and sharing a meal together. At one gathering, the organizer got emotional in light of the recent shootings and encouraged us to learn how to be neighbors and show support for one another. Our civic solidarity is certainly fractured and fracturing, but we have an opportunity to show our neighbors that we stand together as neighbors regardless of our political party, religion, and ethnicity and skin color. I have hope for our country, but it starts at the local level with neighbors learning to be neighbors again.
